Hi all! I was wondering what the terms trousers and smart casual really mean. People Mix them up so much. Also what is smart casual for a fifteen year old girl? X

Yikes - I dont think I've made grade, but for me, the easiest smart casual is BOOTLEG jeans in a DARK DENIM (more dressy than washed & skinny denim) with a SHARP TAILORED JACKET, LOOKED AFTER HEELS (no scuffs, nicks etc) & LOOKED AFTER HANDBAG (again, doesnt have to be designer, but no scuffs, no worn corners) and subtle ACCESSORIES (no need for bling, simple gold or leather watch, a necklace in the most flattering metal for my skin)...you can probably tell I am not a dress girl...simple/smart.

"Smart Casual" for me = clean, tidy, show that you've made an effort but are comfortable. No denim or leather clothing - whilst you could get away with it, it's not "smart". It's just "casual". Safest way to get it right is keep it simple, like a dress with nice shoes and cardigan, or pants with a print shirt/top. Nothing too tight, too short, too low cut! I've pinned a few ideas here for you: http://pinterest.com/RobeShop/how-to-wear-it/

I think smart casual is pants/skirt and a nice top or a dress. Jeans for me are kept for BBQs and other casual occasions. Basically if a dress code is mentioned denim is out.

Hi Hannah, I always think of trousers as a masculine word for pants!! As Jen says trousers are tailored types, rather than track suit or leggings! Smart casual is such a tricky term, but used all the time! My definition is 'dressed well', nothing too short/tight/revealing. Something you'd wear out to dinner with your relatives, rather than something you'd wear to the footy! If that makes sense?!

Well trousers are pants. I always think of them more as tailored pants as apposed too leggings, jeans, track pants. As for smart casual I view it as casual but clean and smart such as tidy jeans, plain top and blazer etc. so no ripped items. Not too much skin, so your casual but you're smart.
