Limousine lunch (smart casual) what to wear
I am in my 40's and my husband and I have been invited to an all expenses paid lunch in Brisbane, being collected by limousine. There are 6 other couples going, the invitation says smart casual, but I am unsure what to wear and I don't have much spare cash at the moment, any ideas????
You could wear a bold print silk blouse or fancy knit top with tailored pants and slick heels. Finish the outfit with understated earrings (gold hoops, diamond studs) and a casual hair 'up-do'. If you're at the dining table for most of the event, the focus on your top half will be ideal. We women are lucky that we have so many options! Enjoy the lunch :)
I appreciate money is tight - but I am imagining the most elegant "smart casual" - the dress, with cream jacket & a long flowy cape....the cape gives everything a sense of drama and high end (even if it is inexpensive)...check Sussan (they did a couple of good ones), Sportsgirl, David Jones....
Thanks girls feeling much happier now I have bounced ideas off other people :-)
Hi Daisydo, sounds like you are organised! I think a dress and jacket will be perfect, not overdressed at all. Sounds like an occasion to dress up for and better to be over-dressed than under-done! Oscar Wilde said you can never be overdressed or overeducated! :)
I agree with Delia that a nice dress or a skirt and top would be perfect for the occasion. Accessorising is such a cost effective way to update outfits you feel you have worn often and have grown tired off. As Delia suggested, places like Diva, Collette and Lovisa are great places for accessories without breaking the bank. If you feel stuck I always love a simple all black look and then add a statement earring and a nice clutch. Have a wonderful time!
Thanks Delia, I was thinking about a dress, which I already have, just above the knee with maybe a cream blazer (which I will need to buy) I was just a bit worried about being "overdressed".
p.s. You can always update accessories to make an outfit look more current in a really affordable way. Check stores like Diva, Lovisa, Collette or even Sportsgirl to find some fashionable pieces that will add a touch of style! You are welcome to come back and show us some of your wardrobe choices to get ideas!
I'd like to know who invented the term 'smart casual'! It sends mixed messages!! Given the sense of occasion (limo, restaurant) I'd err on the side of dressy, rather than casual! You don't have to spend money to look stylish. I think it is all about accessorising! Shop your closet for a dress or skirt/pretty top combo. Add heels, a fabulous necklace or earrings, then take time to do your hair and make-up to look polished and ready for dining out in style!
