Mum style

I have a toddler and I've found much of my wardrobe is inappropriate, not 'breastfeed friendly' or easy to dirty. What do mums wear to feel unique? I'm so tired of my jeans!

I love metalicus and have loads of pieces from tops to dresses (all ebay purchased as it is quite pricey when new), but I find the fabric too delicate for playgroup or the park. It catches and runs too easily. But its great for shopping because many pieces are fitted, you can get away with trying things on without undressing, which is a great time saver, when shopping with kids, they will give you only a very limited and short window in the change room, before they get bored and start a ruckus.

Thanks everyone!

I really liked shirt dresses when I was breast feeding, easy to dress up or down, great with leggings and boots in winter, sandals in summer. If you hang them on a hanger promptly after the wash cycle as finished, then are neat enough without ironing for a day hanging out with kids. If your home with kids you probably don't have cash to splash, I got some great second hand Country road and Jag shirt dresses reasonably priced on ebay.

I suggest wearing comfortable tops in darker colours or prints as they hide any spills or marks that we get from toddlers. I always found separates easier to wear then dresses.Make sure your tops are in a machine washable fabric such as poly/cotton or some fine wool blends Team tops up with coloured/patterned jeggings/leggings as a change to jeans & Use accessories to add flair & fun to your outfit. Scarves & drape cardies are practical & handy when needing discretion! Jo www.imagesense.com.au

one thing I bought that made me feel stylish whilst breast feeding was a long black wool poncho from Country road. It had so many advantages.. Loose and comfortable, covered up my belly, was useful for breast feeding if I had to do it in company, and it looked great with jeans and boots or a slightly fitted skirt.

Metalicus is the best, isnt it? I also find a brand that is a bit dressier but has that same type of mix & match stretch pieces is Mela Purdie. Also I find Charlie Brown does some amazing baby & breastfeed friendly stretch garments with prints. Candice is spot on with her focus on accessories - try brands with strong colourful pieces which are easy to put on/take off like Elk or Dinosaur Designs copies at places like Sussan....Val

I have a 6 month old and 3.5 yr old and am currently struggling with the same dilemmas. For winter I like to tuck pants/jeans into wedge boots, they're on trend but I can run after my very active son and on top I like to layer. I put a cami under a low cut top for easy access at feed times. I also really like a wrap dress with boots and funky tights. But it's definitely accessories that make me feel like a yummy mummy.

This is a question i get asked frequently by my clients and i tend to steer them towards dressing in garments that are easy wash and wear, durable and nice and comfy (yet stylish) I agree with Jo that Metallicus is a brilliant label that offers garments that are so comfy as well as great quality. Their range of colours this season is BANG on trend too. Depending on your budget, jersey wrap dresses are a good option too (you can wear with leggings and flats for a more casual look)

Hi Hippie Mum. Only a few weeks I styled a young mum who was still breastfeeding. We bought a few key pieces from Country Rd, David Lawrence but the one shop she really loved was Metalicus. This is a label that is so easy to wear, kid friendly, easy to pop in the washing machine and you can get 6 pieces and from that you will have so many different combinations that will take you from the playground out to dinner without the children! Remember to accessorise - as that can dress up an outfit.
